I love how Tank admits to just ad-libbing as well in panel 2. Good one Hinds!

Charissa Thompson said this, looks like Hinds did a good job at sketching her in the background of the frames. She has actually had a nice run in front of the cameras as has Erin Andrews. As far as ad-libbing, she is definitely not the only side-line reporter to do this, male or female.

The Tampa radio guys usually quote the same garbage from Todd Bowles week after week at half time and after the game and I honestly do not know if they are just winging it or if the dude actually says the same thing over and over again. Like at the half: “We need to focus more and cut down on those penalties, oh and we need to score more points” and after the game: “We had some great practices in the week but we made some crucial errors which hurt, I forgot I had 3 time outs to burn, I do not like explosive plays on our offense because it can wear down our defense when they spend more time on the field…. blah, blah blah…”

Anyhow ladies like Ms Thompson, Erin Andrews and others often take one’s mind off of the score if your team is not doing very well.

The sign says transfer credits allowed: she could call Frank up and say; “Hey dad, are you busy next Saturday….”….

I think of it in terms of baseball, at 58 I am not ready for the closer to warm up but we are definitely into the later innings (6th or 7th). In football I would definitely be in the 3rd quarter or second half (soccer). Jimmy Carter and others near the century mark have been blessed with extra innings/overtime/extra time!

I remember reading that one of Vance’s beefs with doing “I Love Lucy” was that the guy who played Fred was much, much older than Lucille Ball, Dezi Arnez or her and this led to some “friction” (i.e.: they could not stand each other), yet this somehow translated well into the comedy as you could pick up at how they annoyed one another, they did not have to act!

I am trying to think of a TV couple which are/were like Frank and Nancy: Steven and Alyce Keaton (sans the politics)?

I am 58 and teach at a community college here on the Suncoast, some of my younger students (just out of high school so 18-20 and even up to 25 or so) basically view anything that is more than a decade old as ancient history including Blackberry’s, DVDs, cable/terrestrial TV and Facebook. I guess it is the same as how I viewed things back in the ’80s where anything that happened before 1970 or so even though I did have some of that “older” technology even even into college such as a black and white TV, non-electric typewriter, a transistor radio and an old AirCastle multiband radio from the late ’60s the old man let me have as he collected a few as a hobby and had a spare he let me have to “tune in” the world on shortwave.

One thing different about this new generation of young adults though: the music I listened to in high school and college (particularly college/alternative rock) is appreciated by them! Many of them do know about REM, U2, No Doubt, Pearl Jam, Van Halen, Kate Bush, Cyndi Lauper, Natalie Merchant, Susanna Hoffs etc… Their preferred mix-list still includes some of what I call modern rock but is infused with more rap, world-indie and hip hop as well. Some of the older stuff like rock from the ‘70s or ’60s pop is the music that escapes them; kind of like how I could not get into my parents’ collection of music from the ’40s and ’50: Jazz, Big Band, the big crooners of the day which they would play on that old phonograph that was built into that massive Curtis Mathis Console TV in the living room. Some of the older albums were even 78 rpm, not just 33. I wonder what the kids of 2063 will say about technology and music trends from 2023?

Age is just a number. I realized that when I went to my 40th high school reunion earlier this year (c/o ’83), it was hard to believe we were all in the same class. Time has treated some people much better than others.

Kissinger made it this year (RIP to him along withBob Barker, Betty White and Roasalyn Carter), Spartucus (Kirk Douglas) made it to 103 and Norman Lear is still around at 101. I would not bet against President Carter making it to triple digits either!

Life expectancy has grown since the ‘70s that is for sure. I too remember a few of my Dad’s friends (he was born in 1925) dying of heart attacks or lung cancer in the ’70s when they were in their ’50s. That still happens but as you said,we have better care and screening for cancer and heart problems now so more and more people live well into their 90s and triple digits such as President and First Lady Carter (RIP) as well as Kissenger who made it to 100 as well as others who are members of the “Greatest Generation”……

However, I think the *****ed COVID has put a dent in that trend though. I know a guy who works for Prudential who said the latest actuarial tables the companies use for life insurance have shown a dip since 2020.

Little Joe kind of reminds me of an extra from “Deliverance” in this one.
