Is “beatiful” something that’s going to be beatified (recognized by the Roman Catholic church as a saint)?

From Wikipedia: “Smiling Girl, a Courtesan, Holding an Obscene Image, also known in Dutch as Een Laggende Vrouw met een naakte Pourtraitje in de Hand, waar onder divisje staat (”A laughing woman holding a small picture of a nude in her hand, under which is a motto") or Jonge vrouw met een medaillon (“Young Woman with a Medallion”)…" There’s more at Wikipedia. Fascinating!

These knitters are holding their needles upside down. I wish the cartoonist would look at a few real knitters before drawing them!

Thanks, Mabrndt! You saved me a lot of time/trouble looking for this!

    Why no Spanish-language version today?

  6. 11 months ago on Jeff Danziger

I had to get into this website version of the cartoon because the e-mailed one was too blurred to read. It seems like a lot of today’s e-mailed cartoons were rather blurry.

I’m wondering why we are sometimes not getting the Spanish-language Baldo. I often learn new-to-me Spanish words there!

Here in Portland, it’s foot-powered scooters we have to watch out for as we walk on the sidewalks!

I so appreciate the creators of this comic reinforcing the idea that school is a GOOD thing. I wish the Grand Avenue creators had more of that attitude. There are so many children (think of the girls in Afghanistan, for instance) who would love, love, love to have the opportunity for an education.
